My top 5 healthy snacks
So friends, get to cooking! Set aside an hour or so at the begining of the week, or on a Sunday when you maybe have some help with the kids, and cook five of your favorite things to last you and the family for the week. And while you’re at it, dress the part and have some fun wth it. Savannah loves “helping” me cook, and Hunter loves watching, so it’s a great way to get some snacks made and keep them entertained. It’s also a great way to start teaching good eating and cooking habits to your children.
So here are my top favorite recipes, born from trial and error, and what gets the thumbs up from everyone in the family!
GREEN MUFFINS// recipe here
I found this green muffin recipe from the Kristin Cavallari book that I love. Muffins are the best because they’re easy to just grab and take on the go, and when they include greens and no sugar, they’re even better. If you haven’t heard of Kristin Cavallari or used any of her recipes, you’re welcome. She is serious ‘mom goals’ and always cooking healthy, tasty meals and staying fit too.
EGG SALAD// recipe here
My husband has properly named this “Eggamole” (its actually a healthy egg salad but he insists on calling it that) This is the easiest recipe I found a couple years ago that has just always been a favorite for everyone. You can eat it in a variety of ways which makes it even better. I usually add a tiny bit of dijon mustard and pepper also. Add it on some whole wheat toast, dip some healthy chips in it, or just eat it plain!
GRANOLA// recipe here
I have played around with nut granolas for years. There are a lot of different ones I like, but this recipe is my favorite. It is also so easy to modify and add in some of your favorite things. I don’t even use measuring cups anymore because I just start throwing things in until its the consistency I like. You can also add some rolled oats if you aren’t doing a paleo/no carb diet.
CHICKEN SALAD
This chicken salad is all the yumminess without all the goop. Seriously, is it just me or does this world over-mayonnaises everything? And there is nothing nutritious about it so I feel good leaving it out! I actually prefer eating chicken this way now.
HUMMUS// recipe here
Up until recently, I had NO IDEA how easy hummus was to make yourself! If I would have known how easy it was I would have done this a long time ago. There are so many great recipes you can find on Pinterest, I personally love sticking to the basics. Keep some veggies in your fridge to dip in it and its the best snack.
I hope you all enjoy these recipes as much as I do! Let me know some of your favorite healthy snacks!
